MENTAL CAPACITY

We have a wealth of experience in dealing with elderly clients and the issues that are specific to them. A number of our solicitors are specialists in this field and are members of Solicitors for the Elderly, a national organisation of lawyers committed to providing the highest quality service for older people, their families and their carers.

Example of our experience: Deputyship

We acted for the adult children of an elderly lady to advise on issues arising concerning the loss of their mother’s mental capacity and arrangements for the ongoing administration of her financial affairs. The mother had not drawn up a lasting power of attorney document and, with no one legally appointed to act on her behalf, it was necessary to apply for her children to be appointed as her deputies. We duly made the appropriate application to secure this appointment and subsequently liaised with relevant financial organisations to enable them to take over the running of their mother’s finances.
